We have all been there. You’re body feels like a ton of bricks hit you. It is sick and you want it to just go away. One of the first things you feel like doing is sleeping so that you don’t have to think about it and also in hopes that it goes away. Yet that is one of the hardest times to get to sleep as you are so distracted by how miserable you feel. Here are some things to try (some obvious, some not) to get to sleep when you are under the weather.
As mentioned, this is an obvious one. Take it a few hours before bedtime in hopes that some of the symptoms will go away or at least be reduced. The less miserable you feel, the less likely you will be distracted.
2. Turn on a humidifier.
This works great when you are sick and can also bring some white noise. And who doesn’t love some white noise?
3. Sleep by yourself.
By sleeping independently, you are not having to worry about getting your partner sick or waking them up every five minutes with a cough attack. Again, fewer things to worry about to keep you awake.
4. Embrace the hot.
Take a hot bath or shower. Take in a hot bowl of soup. Do what you need to do to breathe in some steam to help your airways clear up and get the mucus loose.
5. Sit up.
When your head is higher than the rest of your body, it assists with sinus pressure. If sitting up is just too much, at least get your head higher with an extra pillow or two while laying on your new mattress.
