1. Oven Cleaner
Maybe you have a self-clean oven which is awesome and can get the job done but it does take hours and it literally burns off all the junk on your oven. Have you ever smelled this nastiness? It is a job that is best done while you are away. For an easy and painless, chemical free oven cleaner that will remove the grease and muck in 3 easy steps here goes…
- 1 cup baking soda
- ¼ cup water
- Pour white vinegar in until fizzy
Now, here is the fun part. Mix into a paste and spread with an old paintbrush all over the inside of your gross oven. Let it sit for an hour. Come back and gently wipe away your worries and oven grime. This will take some rags and hot water rinsing but the result is fabulous!
- Note: this mixture works great for cleaning out your window tracks too!
2. Microwave Magic
You cannot live another day without trying this magical hack. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water into a bowl and microwave for 5 minutes….trust me. Now remove the bowl and pour that down the drain or make your awesome oven paste with it. Wipe down your microwave and even the toughest and most disgusting baked on stuff will wipe easily off! Voila and you are welcome.

4. Dryer Lint and Toilet Paper Rolls
How much dryer lint do you think you throw away every year? It is endless isn’t it? Here is a “prepper” tip for you. Keep your empty toilet paper rolls above your dryer or in a cute basket to the side. Stuff the lint into the rolls and as you collect these gems and store them in a gallon sized Ziploc bag. When you need to build a fire, hello?? Go get your lint rolls and cut off a portion and fluff the lint then you have easy kindling! This can be good for camping or woodstove fires or just plain save for further disaster use as part of your preps. Very little work for a lot of reward! BAM!
5. Newspaper Logs
For those of us who still get a newspaper, or those who just get that weekly one you never signed up for, newspaper makes excellent logs to burn for warmth. This takes very little work but will boost your “preps” or just help out the heating bill in the winter. Roll the newspaper as tight as you can get it and dip each end in paraffin wax or an old melted candle, let dry and store in bin or buckets. This might sound weird but these rolls will burn for longer than you think. Great for camping and saves the crazy money they charge for wood at campgrounds!
The things people come up with to save us time, resources and money are limitless but these 5 top hacks will get your mind started and your fingers working. What hacks can you come up with? Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
