Doing acts of kindness during the holidays is a great way to celebrate with your family and spread holiday cheer. Whether you just moved into one of the fabulous new KB Homes or are a long time resident in your area, it always feels good to reach out to others. If you are looking for ways to serve your friends and neighbors during this holiday season, here are some great tips:
1. Hang candy canes on the front door of everyone on your street.
Hanging candy canes on front doors is a fun activity to do with your entire family. Each of the family members can split up or go in groups to cover more ground. Think of the surprise each neighbor will get when they go out their front door and see a peppermint treat hanging from their door handle.
2. Leave a card for your postal worker.
The postal staff works very hard during this time of year and sacrifices a lot of time away from family to make sure everyone gets their online orders and holiday cards on time. Think of how much they will appreciate a thoughtful note, and perhaps a small gift card or tip to go along with it.
3. Shovel snow and scrape the windows off the neighbors cars.
One of the most thoughtful things you can do during the winter months is make your neighbors life easier by cleaning off snow so they can leave their home easily for school or work. Often times it will snow during the night making the morning commute a lot more stressful. Think of your neighbors face when they come out to their car to see the driveway clear and the car ready to go.
4. Make an extra meal for a neighbor.
It’s a thoughtful tradition to bring a meal over for a neighbor when they’ve been sick or had a new baby. How about making a meal just because it can be a stressful time of year for people and making dinner is sometimes a chore. Make an extra meal that stores easily for a busy night, or simply bring an extra dessert by, it by will make your neighbor feel happy!
5. Give your neighbor a heart attack.
If you have a neighbor who is having a difficult time because of loss, surgery, or is simply lonely than you can cut out hearts and place them all over their front door, or tape them to wooden skewers and stick them on their lawn. Make a sign to go with it to let them know they are loved. It’s especially fun when you do it when they’re away so that when they get home it is a thoughtful surprise.
