You don’t have to be an advanced wood worker to make your own lounge area seating! With some time and a bit of elbow grease, you can have this simple charming stadium-style seating for your entertainment room or great room. You can do all this with your twin beds and some used pallets. No need to review your Sleepys Return Policy (see Sleepys.com) when you can use your twin beds for furniture!
Since twin mattress sizes sometimes vary by a few inches, first pick out your mattresses you want to use. A standard size is 39″ by 75″.
Pallets also come in different sizes. Check out businesses that you know use pallets or Google your “pallets” with your city and generally you can find distributors of pallets in your area. Always look for the newest ones when going through pallets. A common size is 48″ by 40″.
Gather the supplies you will need:
1. Power sander with sand paper (orbital sander, beginning with lowest grit paper 60, and move up)
2. Eye protection (while sanding)
3. Paint and paint brush
4. Power drill, screws and bolts (to attach pallets together)
Sanding is very important, don’t skip this step. You don’t want anyone getting splinters and slivers when they are enjoying your creation. And unless you love sanding, you will want to use a power sander.
After your pallets are sanded smooth and nice, then apply the paint that you would like. This is optional but will really make it look more attractive and uniform.
Match up your pallets to fit a mattress, and carefully measure and mark 3 holes for each pallet.
Drill your holes using a 3/4″ drill bit. Then scoot your pallets together and insert 3/4″ bolts.
Secure the connection using a washer and nut and then tighten it nicely with a wrench.
With your pallets sanded, painted, and attached; you can now put your mattresses on them. Using matching or coordinating fitted mattress sheets and pillows to complete your look.
