With so many toxins and chemicals assaulting our bodies on a daily basis, it is no wonder a lot of us feel like we need so many energy drinks and supplements. Processed foods, chemicals in the air, various skin products and hair products may all have a detrimental effect on our bodies. These toxins build up in our bodies, and although our bodies have natural ways to detoxify, the toxins often take a toll on us in various ways. So detoxing is important in maintaining your health. The thing is, when should you detox?
There are several reasons to decide to detox your body. Some reasons are that you may feel sluggish and lethargic despite getting sleep and good food. You may have trouble concentrating and focusing, or you may have headaches. Sometimes your breath may smell or you may emit more body odor. Allergies may seem overwhelming or you may be constipated or susceptible to sickness. These sound like symptoms to a lot of different things including, the need to detox your body.
Detoxing is extremely beneficial on so many levels. It helps improve cellular regeneration, and decreases inflammation in the body. Overall, it helps optimize your bodies performance while giving it a break from the constant onslaught of chemicals internalized through digestion. I mean, we can only do so much about the damage from our external environment, like air pollution or sun damage, but we can definitely limit our intake of toxic foods.
You do not have to give up everything, and you will not have to do it for too long either. Many nutritionists recommend detoxing for 10 days or so, maybe less if it is your first time. Food like red meat, corn, dairy and gluten should be omitted from your diet. Instead, you should stick to fruits and vegetables, both as juices and whole foods. Eating items like broccoli, kale, ginger, beets and parsley are all recommended. Include some proteins in the form of nuts like, almonds, walnuts, quinoa, pea and artichoke. Balance it all out with fats from avocados, thyroid helpers like nori and wakame, and throw in some turmeric to fight inflammation.
Regardless of exactly how you decide to detox, it is an important part of remaining healthy. In fact, it is a recommended procedure to be done twice a year, usually at spring and fall. There are different approaches to detoxing so do your research, but if you are feeling tired, ill, or just off your A-game, detox and see how much you improve.
