Things in a home break, that’s just the way of the world. Heating and cooling systems will run down, appliances will burn out, and overall parts and pieces of a home will need to be replaced. Even homes which are constructed to the specifications of the homeowner, such as those built by K B Homes, will eventually need maintenance. For homeowners that don’t want to break the bank, the solution is a home warranty.
A home warranty is different from a home insurance policy. An insurance policy protects a home against damages and disasters; a home warranty focuses on appliances and systems that will need maintenance in order to provide necessities to the home. If a home is damaged in a fire, then insurance covers damages. If a home’s heating system goes out, then a warranty will cover most of the cost for the replacement or maintenance required to get it up and running again.
Home warranties are not “get out of jail free” cards, though. There is a fee associated with maintaining the warranty, and there will typically be a fee for every instance in which maintenance has to be done on the home. However, a $50 or $75 fee isn’t much in light of what the cost to hire a professional and replace a broken system would run for a homeowner who doesn’t have the necessary warranty to cushion the financial blow. Just like insurance it’s better to have a warranty and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
