DIY this cool and fashion forward, home sweet home, trendy project. Spruce up a tired old winter look by adding these fun curtains to your living room, bedroom or any room in your home.
- Curtains in whatever color you want(cotton and polyester work the best but linen and canvas will work too)
- 2 five gallon buckets
- Place to hang curtains dry
- Sewing pins
Begin by filling both of your five gallon buckets ¾ of the way full of water. Add 1 cup of bleach to one bucket (don’t forget which bucket is your bleach bucket!). Dip the bottom of your curtains 2/3 of the way up the curtain into the plain water bucket. Saturate the curtain evening and then wring most of the excess water out. Do both curtains. Now mark exactly how high you are going to dip in bleach solution on both curtains with your sewing pin. Dip one curtain at a time and hold at marked point for about 3 minutes then take curtain out and hang to dry. Do the other curtain the same way. Since you have pre moistened the curtain beforehand the bleach will wick up the fabric and create a very nice ombre effect. Be patient because you will not see this immediately, it may take some time for the bleach to work. Allow curtains to dry completely and then wash both in cold water with no detergent for a full cycle. Hang dry and crunch for scrunch effect or iron for a flowing effect. Hang and admire your custom made ombre curtains. Note: the lighter the fabric the more subtle the effect with be, for bold colors you will see this cool effect more prominently.
By trying something new and fun in your home decor , that you created yourself, you will be able to admire your new look all season long and your friends will be impressed with your fun new DIY bleach ombre curtains. Have fun with every project you do!
