Sleeping on a comfortable mattress is one of those great things that separate us from the animals. Most people keep their mattresses for five years, ten years or even longer! Now, if you’ve had your mattress for a while now, ask yourself: when was the last time you have cleaned your mattress? Do you remember? Have you ever cleaned it before? Perhaps you have a mattress pad and, yes, you sleep on sheets, but over time dirt and dust will accumulate into the fabric.
If you wash your sheets on a regular basis, that is great. But, what do you do with a dirty mattress? You cannot throw that in the washing machine. The primitive method of just flipping it over does not solve the problem. So, how do you effectively clean a mattress? Here are some proven tips that will get your mattress clean.
• Try an upholstery cleaner. These cleaners are made specifically for furniture that is covered with fabric, such as a couch or comfortable chair. They are also made with safe substances that will not harm your skin.
• A solution of hydrogen peroxide and water strayed on the area is good for breaking down stains (such as those from blood or urine).
• For mold and mildew, drying out your mattress is extremely important. This can be done by setting your mattress outside on a bright and sunny day for a few hours. Be sure to spray heavily with disinfectant afterwards.
If your mattress needs to be freshened up and it is still under Sleepys Warranty, a healthy spray with fabric refresher should be enough to get rid of any unpleasant odors.
