Emergencies do not have to be scary or cause anxiety. When you are prepared it takes the fear and some worry out of an otherwise stressful situation.
Disaster strikes when you least expect it to. Be prepared for any situation that might befall you. Earthquakes and natural disasters do not wait for us to wake up in the morning, they can occur in the middle of the night and all hours of the day! Are you prepared?

Things to consider:
- Broken glass from windows
- Items that fall from high places
- Clothing to wear
- Phone handy?
- Where to shut off your gas ,water and electricity
- Check your smoke detectors regularly
What do you risk in a middle of the night emergency?
- Cuts on feet and hands
- Head wounds
- Tripping hazards
- Scared kids
- Panicked adults
You have just been woken up because your bed is shaking and you are dazed, confused and still mostly asleep, what do you do? Grab your “Under- The –Bed- Emergency- Kit”, check your family members and get out of your home, if you can. Here are some of the items should you think about putting in your kit.
1. Bottled water
2. Close toed shoes and socks
3. Flashlight with batteries
4. Small First Aid Kit
5. Work gloves
7. Dust mask or bandanna
8. Sweat pants and sweatshirt since you will be in pajamas!
9. Paper and pen and tape for leaving a note
10. High calorie snack
11. Crowbar or hatchet to clear debris
12. Bin, Bucket or Large Ziploc storage bag to store this in.

Be sure to also secure any frames on the wall above your head and shelving in your rooms that might fall long before any disaster might strike. Be prepared ahead of time and if you are so unlucky as to have an emergency you will be lucky enough to have some things to help you and your family out. Can you imagine a fire in the middle of the night and you do not have shoes? An earthquake? A flash flood? Things happen, don’t get caught with your pajamas on and bare feet! Make a smaller version of your kit for each one of your children too. It is better to be safe than sorry. Rest easy and sleep sound knowing you have just helped yourself and your family in the event that disaster strikes.
