Every year as Mother’s Day comes around it seems as though we go through a rut of “what gift can we give to express our love and devotion this year?” And every year it seems we fall short. How do we express our heartfelt gratitude to our mothers for not killing us for that time when ____? (I’m sure we can all fill in the blank). We all have experienced those moments that only our mothers could endure as graciously as they did. So let’s take a moment to give a shout out to mothers everywhere by saying I love you, and thanks for all you are.
Make A Keepsake Book
Reminisce with mom by making her a keepsake book with pictures from times past. Add letters (from her siblings, children, and grandchildren), artwork and places she has lived. If you remember her with a special item then scan pictures of those things as well. Take pictures of her hobbies and write about how you remember her always sewing, hiking, reading, cooking, and decorating for holidays. She will cherish such a personalized and sincere gift.
Take Her On An Adventure
Take her on a drive with the wind in her hair on a magical road trip down memory lane…literally! Plan a trip to see and experience where she grew up. If time permitting, gather all those who knew her and have them write some memories or thoughts about her and compile them into a book. Better yet throw a party in her honor while passing by. She will love seeing all her old time pals. Give her the book at the end of the trip or celebration.
Do Some Yard Work
Show mom that mowing the lawn all those years really paid off. Fix up the outside of her kb home by freshening up the curb appeal. You can do this by:
- Mowing the lawn
- Pulling weeds and planting flowers in the flower beds
- Spraying the house down to get rid of all the dust and dirt from the wind
- Clean the windows
- Add a new welcome mat to the porch
- Till her garden to get ready for seasonal planting
- Take her to the store to pick out a new wreath for the front door
Spending time doing the things she loves will let her know how valued she is. Treat her to a spa day, complete with a massage, hair cut and styled, nail done-the whole shebang. Afterwards treat her to her favorite restaurant.
Time Well Spent
Giving time is the ultimate gift for anyone. If money is tight and you feel like you can’t give much, give her your time. Mothers love to know you care by taking time out of your own busy life to spend some quality time with her.
- Go for an ice-cream and talk at the park
- Sing her a song you wrote just for her
- Ask for her advice
- Relive fun memories of times past and let her know what a fantastic mom she is
At the end of the day no matter what gift you chose, make sure to end your visit with a big hug and kiss with the simple words- I love you mom.
