Earliest Known Inhabitants
The Ohlone were the earliest known Native Americans to live in this area, and the very first inhabitants can be dated as far back as 3000 B.C. Because of the natural ease of hunting and fishing the bay area also lent itself to trading to places like Baja, the Mojave, and even Yosemite with the early Native Americans
The name San Francisco came from the early Spanish settlers in the mid 1700’s. This European influence came to create military posts and for religious conversion.
